The appearance, establishment and management of virtual libraries: a review of the literature

Abstract

A survey of the current panorama of virtual libraries, which have been promoting transformations in the activities and practices of the traditional library. With the advent of new technology and the subsequent introduction of the Internet, the concept of libraries has been transformed and its definition revised. Through an analysis of works published under this topic, problems are raised in connection to the establishment and management of virtual libraries. The paper also proposes solutions to the development of such libraries.
