Information systems and emancipatory knowledge

Abstract

This paper studies emancipatory knowledge considering the field of information systems, based on critical theory. The objectives are: to present a dialectical method of analysis producing such knowledge and to apply it through an empirical illustration using a Brazilian case. Two metaphors emerge from the analysis and in one there is an evidence of emancipatory knowledge. Conclusions discuss the appropriateness of the dialectic method of analysis as well as its strengths and limitations that were observed during the research.
