Document Classification Plans in Archives and Classification Theory: a dialogue among knowledge domains.

Abstract

This study presents and discusses the theoretical and methodological principles, which guide the elaboration of document classification plans in archives. The emphasis is on the knowledge of the institutional framework. The principles of classification theory pertaining the construction of documentary languages and specially, classification schemes, in the scope of the organization of knowledge must be taken into consideration in document classification plans in archives. Finally, in the elaboration of such plans, interaction among several areas of knowledge, specifically between Archivology and Information Science regarding the analysis and documents representation.
