Information and interpretation: a theoretical-methodological approach

Abstract

Information science (IS) is going through a particular stage, in which the so called physical and cognitivist paradigms are under discussion and the social paradigm gains space. It is observed that the term information has been used in IS with the meaning of interpretation, as an alternative to the idea of representation and that an approximation of hermeneutics with dialectics could be a theoretical-methodological reference for the field. This paper synthetizes readings about qualitative research in the human and social sciences as applied to information studies.
