Abstract

The open air academies (AAL) are spaces that are usually in squares, with the purpose of encouraging the practice of physical activity, with equipment that uses the body of the practitioner as a load for the exercises. The objective of this study was to verify the profile of AAL residents located in the urban perimeter of the municipality of Boa Vista-RR. The interviews were held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from September and October 2017, at the times of greatest flow of use. This was the first study carried out in the municipality that sought to study the profiles of AAL users in Boa Vista-RR and had a sample of 80 individuals. For the data collection, a questionnaire containing demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral, and health issues related to the use of AALs was applied. The results showed that the highest frequency of users was female (70%), brown (56.25%), married, with a mean age of 39 years, with income of up to one minimum wage (32.50% ) with complete high school education (58.75%), adequate body mass index (BMI), current non-smokers (90%). About 66.25% reported being hypertensive and diabetic (33.75%); in addition, (39.50%) attended AAL at least four times a week, and more than (75%) used AAL as a complement of its activities. These results should be considered and thus contribute positively to the best use of these sites by the population.
