More than simple entertainment, cinema is also a possibility for research. The representation of historical reality on the cinema screen also goes according to whoever produces it. Still, it is undeniable that every film carries elements of the context and its historical reality. Therefore, the objective of this work is to carry out a comparative analysis between the works Metrópolis (Germany, 1927) and Strike (Soviet Union, 1925), highlighting the political and social context of production of each of the films, and as similarities and differences in the workers struggles and leisure practices, are represented there. At first, Metrópolis and strike seem to be similar, weaving a certain social critique of the capitalist system. A closer look, however, disappoints this first impression. The two films, therefore, have very different conceptions about the potential of collective struggle and the role of the working class, and point to opposite paths.
Keywords: Cinema, leisure, workers struggle.
