ANALYSIS OF THE LEISURE AND SPORT POLICIES IN FEDERAL PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES OF MINAS GERAIS FROM THE GUIDING DOCUMENTS

Authors

Abstract

This study discussed the role of federal public universities in Minas Gerais in formulating leisure and sports policies on campuses through a documentary analysis of the Institutional Development Plans, the Statutes and the General Regiments of universities. Through a search tool, the terms “leisure” and “sport” were quantified and organized into a category of analysis, identifying their location in the documents and to which speeches they were linked. The documents indicated that leisure and sport are present in several instances (University Extension, Student Assistance, Physical Infrastructure), in all the universities investigated, from different concepts and objectives. However, few universities are able to define their own policy for their development. Most of them organize in form of isolated events and not as an effective leisure policy and conceive them in a functionalist and assistentialist (promoting health/quality of life; maintenance/permanence of students in the institution; and as a social interaction possibility). Only four universities have indicated to understand leisure policy, as an integral part of the educational actions being developed and as a constitutional right that must be universalized.
