Abstract

This work seeks to reflect on the music that characterizes the Pampa as a region: the milonga. In particular, the milonga that takes place in the Río Grande del Sur region and in particular, in the city of Pelotas. Thus, we approach the music of the Brazilian composer Vitor Ramil to understand the geographical characteristics that are glimpsed in the lyrics and melodies of the eleven songs that make up the album Ramilonga – A estética do frio (1997). To do this, we base ourselves on the speech A estética do frio that Ramil gave at the conference in Geneva, on June 19, 2003, as part of the Porto Alegre, un autre Brésil program and on the documentary film A linha frio do horizonte (2014), directed by filmmaker Luciano Coelho.
