Mental Health in the Undergraduate English Teacher Education Course at Ufes and Decoloniality
Why Do We (Also) Need to Talk About It
Keywords:
autoethnography, mental health, coloniality, pre-service teacher education, Critical Language EducationAbstract
This article seeks to discuss a reality that is still largely absent in debates about the academic life and Brazilian public universities: their undergraduates' mental health. To this end, we point to the university context and praxis as steeped in coloniality. Departing from evaluation issues, but without being tied to them, I make considerations and critical reflections about the mental health of undergraduates in an English teacher education course through autoethnography, narrating my trajectory with the aforementioned theme as a professor in charge of a project-based teaching/learning discipline, as well as course coordinator. I hope that my self-critical and decolonial reflections serve as a wake-up call for Critical Applied Linguistics, as well as for the academic community in general.
