On the Role of Dialogic Relations in Scientific Articles in the Humanities

This article focuses on aspects related to the analysis of the written production of research articles in the field of the Humanities. The discussion presented here derives from the results of a broader investigation developed in a Master’s thesis, whose main objective was to analyze and detail the role of dialogic relations in the writing of research articles representative of different areas of knowledge. In order to characterize how dialogic relations are configured in Humanities research articles and to discuss their implications for the construction of academic writing, we analyzed articles collected from two academic journals ranked A1 in the Brazilian Qualis system. Selected textual excerpts illustrate different manifestations of dialogic relations, examined on the basis of the classifications of discourse types and variants discussed in Bakhtin (2018) and Volóchinov (2021). Methodologically, the analysis was grounded in Volóchinov’s methodological study of language (2021), combined with the evidential paradigm (Ginzburg, 1991). The results reveal the diversity of dialogism’s manifestations in the research article as a discursive genre and demonstrate how the use of different discourse types and variants guides the textualization process, as the discourse of the other is taken up, anticipated, and cited.
