The Testimonial Narrative as a Political Resistance in the Journey of Rudolf Brazda, Homosexual Deported to the Buchenwald Camp

This paper aims to shed light on an event that has not yet been fully explored in historiography and discourse analysis: the rememoration of testimonial content of homosexuals who faced the Nazism. The name “event” is not accidental since this concept is taken in the wake of what was theorized by Pêcheux (2015), who thought the event as an inscription, that is, as something that emerges from a irremediably misleading formulation, in a conjuncture that formulates evidence and stability effects. What is at stake in this work is to discuss the construction of an official memory about the consequences of the traumatic Nazi regime, starting from the hypothesis of the existence of a formulation of memory that aimed to erase certain experiences, creating a kind of hierarchy among the victims of Nazism. This deletion was due to the fact that sexual relations between men remained prohibited after the end of the liberation of the concentration camps. Starting from the analysis of some fragments of the book Pink Triangle, written by Jean-Luc Schwab and Rudolf Brazda, the article assumes that there is a gesture of resistance established on two fronts: One involves a confrontation with discursive formations (Pêcheux, 2014a) that dictate what can be spoken/written/read; and the other, in which there is an unavoidable resistance to trauma. (Mariani, 2021), in a sliding process that takes place between melancholy (Baldini; Sousa, 2014; Freud, 2011) and griefwork (Freud, 2011).
