The study aims to describe and analyze how the acquisition of professional and management skills varies before and after the students join two management disciplines in the nursing course of a Private Institution in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. We adopted the Administration Competency Model of Quinn et al., which comprises four management models and eightmanagementroles, each one with three specific skills. A field survey with a descriptive and quantitative approach wasrealized. Data were obtained trough documentary survey, direct observation and a questionnaire, which was distributed to the participants according to their availability in responding to it. Fifty-seven questionnaires were filled in and data were put in a spreadsheet. It is important to say that students informed that such disciplines had contributed to their graduation regarding management skills, enhancing their perception on the abilities required in each role. After further analysis we realized it is necessary to improve teaching practices related to this role, as well as the coordinator and principal roles, since very few changes were seen. In the end, the shortcomings of the research were marked and future studies were suggested.Downloads
