Nurses' engagement in pre-hospital care in Brazil began in the 90's with the introduction of the advanced life support unit. Currently, nurses are an active part of a team delivering quality care, preventing complications, evaluating potential risks, and conducting the process of care safely. The objective of this study was to describe, through literature review, nurses' actions in primary and advanced health care inside a pre-hospital mobile unit. Data was collected from Lilacs (Latin American Literature in Health Sciences) and SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) databases. The study demonstrated that the nurses' participation in pre-hospital care in Brazil as well as in other countries, in which the service is at a higher level of development, is yet to be consolidated. However, in just over two decades, nurses have steadily expanded their participation and are now essential to the service success.Downloads
