Abstract

Exploratory study- descriptive of qualitative character with the objectives to describe the participation of the father in the prenatal consultations in the interviewed pregnants perception; to characterize the factors that interfere in the participation or not of the father in the prenatal consultations; to analyze the pattern participation in this consultations. Twenty pregnants had been interviewed that were taken care of in the clinic of the University Hospital. The whole interviews were recorded and transcribed, submitting the dades to analysis of the content in the thematic modality, apprehending that the presence of the fathers in the prenatal consults was low. Considering that in seventy consults realizes, just in twenty they were present. The pregnants had consider important this participation and refer as one of the main reasons that makes that man accompain the woman in prenatal consults, the concern about the son's and her own health. Between the motives for the absence, had been apprehended that it can result from the pregnants wish, for example caused by embarrassment; can result from the mate, for example for coincidence with the work time and also the prenatal assistance service can restrict the parternal participation. For the interviews it was possible to evidence that the index of participation of the father is low, therefore, of the seventy consultations carried through in only twenty they were presents. Also it was evidenced that the pregnants consider important the involvement, however referring aspects same them, to the services and the proper fathers had been apprehended as justification for their absence, between them the paternal work and the shame of the pregnants. In the reality, they are hindrances of possible solution, since that the team recognizes and values its meaning with sights to propitiate that the gestation is lived of full form, harmonious and the healthful one.
