Abstract

This is a qualitative study that had the objective of to know the perception of mothers about a program for asthmatic children called "A Criança que Chia" after the implementation of the Family Health Program at the São Paulo Health Center in Belo Horizonte, MG. Fifteen mothers were interviewed. The results showed that after the implementation of the Family Health Program the health care improved and the child´s asthmatic crises decreased. Furthermore, they reported that it is not necessary to go to the emergency service as frequent as usual; the health care is faster and easier; there is a trustful relationship between them and the health professionals and they feel more involved in their child´s treatment.
