This work presents the results of qualification of the nursing team in preventing accidental extubation related to nursing care in four moments: bed-bathing, transport of a critically ill patient, change of decubitus, change of fixation. The research was carried out in the intensive care unit of Hospital Procardíaco, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Sixty-five workers were trained during 60 hours between January and March 2006. Data was collected using a questionnaire before and after training. Results showed that the nursing technicians gave wrong answers to over 10% of the questions on pneumonia and extubation, to the bed-bathing procedure and to control of tracheal fixation and of ventilation circuits. The nurses had an incidence of 13% mistakes in the care related to fixing the ventilation device. By examining the pre and post test results, it was found that the global averages rose 25% compared to the initial averages and all, at the end of training, had marks above 8.Downloads
