Abstract

This study had the objective of reviewing scientific literature about chronic pain in children with bone tumors, beginning with key-words in a search of the Medline and Lilacs databases. Thirty-five articles were selected and 4 themes arose from them: the prevalence of bone tumors in childhood; the challenges of oncological pain in children; the impact of cancer and palliative therapeutics for children with cancer. The results demonstrated the suffering in children caused by a lack of adequate control of pain, alerting to the need to increase awareness and training of nurses caring for children and their families.
