Abstract

This article intended to understand, by analyzing the discourse of 19 mothers of children who died from neonatal tetanus in the State of Minas Gerais, 1997-2002, the means of preventing the disease, especially anti-tetanus inoculation, which is considered the most effective protection. Among other findings, it was noted that a significant number of women at a fertile age, even many years after the death of their babies, had not had the necessary doses of vaccination against neonatal and accidental tetanus. This shows a loss of opportunities for vaccination.
