Abstract

This is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach that was carried out at the Malnutrition Prevention Program in a Health Center in Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The objective was to understand the meaning of being a mother of a malnourished child. Eleven interviews were performed to collect data. The results showed two major categories: "Having a malnourished child: revealing existence" and "Having a malnourished child: the relationship between mother-child in the process of caring". This study provided an opportunity to see new routes for the teaching/care process of the mother-child experiencing malnutrition.
