This is a study on the retention of nurse in the Jequitinhonha Valley, northeast of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. We described the profile and activities carried out and proposed actions to help retain professionals. The main problems found were low qualification and the lack of material resources for health care in the municipalities. The turn-over of health professionals affects the Single Health System (National Health System) and the family health strategy. Research on the lack of motivation of nurses assists in creating mechanisms to break isolation, permit the exchange of experiences and favor their retention at their worksites.Downloads
