Abstract

The prevention and control of infectious diseases in hospitals is closely related to nursing and is increasing its importance with the re-emerging of previously controlled or eradicated diseases, the emerging of new pathogenic organisms, of multidrug-resistant bacterias, and patients with immune deficiency. This article is a bibliographic revision of lhe concepts and ideas of biosafety and nursing. This review is based on new recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/USA on isolation precautions in hospitals that can certainly help the Brazilian nurses.
