This article aims to analyze the meanings bedside accompanying mothers of premature babies attribute to support group experiences. A descriptive and exploratory study was carried out from a qualitative approach. Data were collected through open interviews with 16 mothers at a hospital in Recife/PE, Brazil, which were recorded. The meanings the mothers attributed to the SGAM experience were grouped into three thematic units: The listening strategy as a therapy, The hospital as a space for laughing and relaxing, Getting strength and establishing affective bonds. Strategies to support bedside accompanying mothers, carried out by a multidisciplinary team, are considered to be of help for humanizing care in the hospital environment, recommending their implantation at neonatal units, by health professionals who are aware of their social role in the search for a transformation, involving the participation of care clients.Downloads
