The article seeks to highlight the strength and originality of a political ontology of neoliberalism proposed in Michel Foucault’s analyses, whose purpose is to demonstrate how neoliberal governmentality consists of governing individuals through truth in the form of subjectivity. To this end, it initially proposes to articulate Foucault’s analysis with Giorgio Agamben’s description of an ontological apparatus whose function, in Western history, is to perpetuate the command over the individual by introducing them into their own process of subjectivation. It then argues that it was through this apparatus that neoliberalism constituted the subject of its political practice, whose rationality seeks to separate agency from intelligence, largely causing the collapse of ethical behavior. The article concludes by proposing to take the anarchaeology described by Foucault as a technology of the self capable of resisting the subjective injunctions of neoliberalism.
