On university extension in photography based on the project “Bordas da Imagem”

This paper’s aim is to reflect on the relationship between photography and university extension, based on the project “Bordas da Imagem” developed at UFMG's School of Fine Arts, whose main action is a Study Group with readings about the photographic image and everything that surrounds it. We arranged a panorama of what it means to do university extension today and how theoretical reflection as a joint construction of knowledge can, not only be a crucial part of research and education but also of extensionist practices. Therefore, listing authors from education and photography, as well as current regulations. We also argue that photography, due to its current flow and quantity, has increasingly demanded a critical and multiple reading, which cannot be done without the confluence of perspectives enabled by university extension and without a space that is opportune for moments of sharing.
