The experience of an extension project in dental implant maintenance using hands-on training

This is the experience report of the extension project “Maintenance and Control in Implantology”, in which undergraduate students of the School of Dentistry of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (FAO/UFMG) experience implantology in order to perform these clinical procedures. The objective of this work is to report the experience of this project in the use of hands-on training, in which, by using specific mannequins, clinical situations are simulated, aiming at knowledge, theoretical-practical training and development of skills and competencies for Dentistry students. During the activity, the teachers prepare the students for the clinical procedures, simulating their execution on the mannequins and clarifying doubts, in order to guarantee safety for the treatments in patients. The experience was well evaluated by the authors, because, after the activity, the students demonstrated competencies, skills and showed themselves capable of clinical care of patients.
