Abstract

This experience report discusses university extension activities and the production of care in addressing low vaccination coverage rates, based on experiences within the Project Experiences and Internships in the Reality of the Unified Health System (VER-SUS/Brazil), developed in Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais (VER-SUS JF-MG). The objective was to critically reflect on the experience of VER-SUS JF-MG as an extension strategy for health education articulated with the territory, immunization, and the integration between teaching, health services, and the community. This is an experience report grounded in field records, workshops, discussion circles, educational actions, and activities carried out in territories linked to Primary Health Care between March 16 and 21, 2026. The experience highlighted immunization teaching and health education as social practices permeated by relational, cultural, and political dimensions, revealing the limitations of approaches centered exclusively on theory. On the other hand, the actions developed demonstrated the central role of qualified listening, bonding, health communication, and interprofessional collaboration in the production of care, fostering critical and contextualized learning. It is concluded that VER-SUS JF-MG was configured as a powerful space for education and social transformation, strengthening extension practices committed to the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), the shared production of knowledge, and the development of critical and socially engaged professionals.
