Abstract
This article was produced for the discipline ACR040, taught by prof. dr. Celina Borges and Prof. dr. Mateus Rosada, from discussions and class information and from data collected in the CNPq research “Ornamento e Retórica: o espaço da música em importantes exemplares da arquitetura religiosa setecentista mineira”, guided by prof. dr. Vanessa Brasileiro and Dr. Robson Costa. The text trace a relationship between architecture, art and music in the colonial period of Minas Gerais. Thus, the article was divided into two parts: the first, “Panorama sobre arquitetura, ornamentação e música em Sabará“, presents an overview of Sabara’s relevance in the colonial context of Minas Gerais in historical, architectural and musical terms. The second part, “As igrejas de Nossa Senhora da Expectação e da Ordem terceira do Carmo e a Sonata nº2”, discusses differences between the ambiences of the baroque and rococo churches in the city and relates them to “Sonata nº2”, found in Sabará, which presents a vision of faith similar to that which guided the ornamentation of contemporary rococo temples. With this analysis, the objective is to broaden the understanding of the artistic and cultural panorama of Minas Gerais in the 18th century.
