Abstract

The objective of this work is to shed light on the disenchantment of the world advocated by Max Weber, based on three axes: the Protestant religion, science and the capitalist mode of production. These three "institutions" intend to conceive visions of the world that shape men to their services and interests. Religion, by engendering theological theories that spread paradise, where the holy man will live, creates a world of earthly damnation, a place of passage. Science, on the other hand, intends to relate to the earth only from the point of view of a matter, which must be studied, handled in order to produce goods that are indispensable for the maintenance of life. Capitalism intends to produce to achieve profit, wealth. Within these contexts, the world loses its enchantment, and this can be the source of benefits and harm to the environment, which will be clarified throughout the text.
