Abstract

The first issue of the journal: University Libraries: research, experiences and perspectives, planned and edited by the Library System of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), was born out of the need to disseminate topics relevant to university libraries, opening up theoretical and practical issues in the areas of management, organization and retrieval of documentary information, in its technological, human, social and related aspects.

The articles that inaugurate this important vehicle for scientific and technological communication demonstrate its scope, by opening up theoretical and practical paths to subsidize teaching, research and university extension in the fields of librarianship and information science. Its themes denote the transformations of the university library as a result of new information and communication technologies.
