Open Science Compliance

The adoption of practices aligned with the principles of Open Science strengthens transparency, accessibility, and integrity in scholarly communication. Committed to these values, the journal Bibliotecas Universitárias: pesquisas, experiências e perspectivas follows guidelines that ensure the broad dissemination of knowledge, removing access barriers and promoting collaboration among researchers.

The following principles guarantee compliance with Open Science, encompassing free access to content, the use of institutional repositories, persistent identifiers, and licenses that favor the free circulation of knowledge. Moreover, the journal reaffirms its commitment to ethics and integrity in research, preventing plagiarism and ensuring the traceability of publications.

Below are the main criteria adopted to ensure transparent, accessible scientific publication in line with best practices in Open Science:

  • Open access: all journal content is offered free of charge, with no subscription, submission, review, editing, or publication fees.

  • Transparency and traceability: the editorial workflow is managed via Open Journal Systems (OJS), enabling efficient communication with readers and a transparent, traceable editorial process.

  • Research data deposition: authors are encouraged to share research data in institutional and open repositories such as Zenodo and Figshare, promoting reproducibility and transparency.

  • Publication and preprint deposition: authors are encouraged to deposit published articles in institutional repositories and to share preliminary versions (preprints) in specialized servers.

  • Open licensing: the journal uses the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license, allowing sharing, reuse, and broad dissemination of knowledge.

  • Use of persistent identifiers: persistent identifiers such as ORCID for authors and ROR for institutions are used to ensure correct attribution of authorship and traceability of publications. Soon, the journal will also adopt Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for all articles, further enhancing their visibility and permanence.

  • Research ethics and integrity: the journal follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the SciELO Good Practices Guide for Strengthening Ethics in Scholarly Publishing, ensuring ethical practices, including procedures for content retraction.

  • Contributor roles attribution: we recommend the adoption of the CRediT taxonomy, which accurately represents contributors' roles in publications.

  • Plagiarism prevention and academic integrity: text similarity detection tools are used to detect plagiarism and guarantee originality.

  • Interoperability and open standards: open metadata standards and interoperability with repositories are adopted to expand visibility and dissemination. The OAI‑PMH protocol is used to promote broad indexing and retrieval of articles.
