Abstract

The semi-adjustable articulator has the purpose of fully reproducing static, and partially reproducing dynamic, maxilo-mandibular relations. However, some of these characteristics depend on the quality with which these devices were manufactured. The aim of this research was to check the components responsible for determining Bennett’s angle (BA), the articular eminence (AE), and the intercondylar distance (ID) of the semi- adjustable articulator (SAA) Dentflex®. The sample consisted of 30 new SAAs from the students of Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais (PUC-Minas). Measurements were taken using a digital gauge and an angle gauge. Results showed a BA at an average of 15°,25’ ± 2,08 on the right side as compared to 15°,73’ ± 2,43 on the left side. In contrast, the AE presented an average of 29°,13’ ± 1,80 and 29°,5’ ± 1,38 on the right and left sides, respectively. The small ID presented an average of 96,00mm ± 0,15, whereas the mid-sized ID presented an average of 109,95mm ± 0,17, and the larger ID presented an average of 123,88mm ± 0,17. It can therefore be concluded that the SAAs measured in this study showed significant variances in dimensions caused by the manufacture of the devices.
