Peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms at the international scope
a conceptual and empirical analysis

The purpose of this article was to analyze peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms at the international level and the influence of international actors in resolving these conflicts. The main objectives were to study how conflicts and the actions of States and international institutions affect the world, as well as their contributions to future events, in the construction of concepts and understandings of international law and other areas, in addition to investigating how geopolitics influences relations of these international agents, shaping the reality of contemporary human civilization. A bibliographical review was carried out based on United Nations (UN) resolutions, treaties, reports, articles and other regulations. Three cases were also studied, namely: Brazilian territorial issues at the time of the Empire in the 19th and 20th centuries; the Bosnian war in the 1990s; and the Ethiopia-Eritrea war between 1998 and 2000. It was observed that the strengthening of diplomatic institutions, as well as the development of dialogue between the conflicting parties, is of vital importance for maintaining interaction and interdependence between peoples, which are the fundamental mechanisms for the functioning of the contemporary world.
