Abstract

Understanding the diversity of Agroforestry Systems (AFS) is essential for advancing global food security, climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable land-use strategies. This multilingual systematic review analyzed AFS typologies described in Portuguese and the six official United Nations languages. From 1,113 publications identified across international databases, 71 studies were selected following the PRISMA protocol. Results revealed the predominance of agrosilvicultural systems, alongside silvopastoral, agrosilvopastoral, successional, forest garden, and oasis agroforestry systems. The diversity identified highlights the adaptability of AFS across distinct socioecological contexts and their potential to support public policies and Nature-based Solutions aimed at sustainable development.
