The present text approaches the tendencies of the Brazilian education thought, standing out the originality and the present time of Paulo Freire´s pedagogy. It places the though of Freire in the perspective of a Popular Education that transcends the limits of the social classes and of the critical pedagogy. In the Brazilian education, it is based what it is intended to characterize as originality of Paulo Freire's pedagogic thought.
