Abstract

This article presents the research results developed within the scope of a doctorate in Educational Sciences. The aim was to analyze the relationship between non-formal education which takes place in the context of higher education and teacher training. This investigation has qualitative nature, data collection consisted of conducting 21 interviews, whose data were treated according to thematic content analysis. The research made it possible to study the educational and training practices developed in two popular pre-university courses, which aim to prepare groups of people from economically and socially disadvantaged classes to take the ENEM test. These courses are Rede Emancipa and Conexões de Saberes. Considering the functions that non-formal education can play, namely with regard to complementing formal and non-formal education, the results indicate that the analyzed educational practices are essential for the training of degree students since they enable the learning of theoretical and practical knowledge. These experiences studied are close to popular education, as the teaching practice takes place in accordance with a critical view, in addition, they are essential tools that aim at the democratization of higher education in Brazil.
