In “Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power”, first edition 1978, Audre Lorde proposes the erotic, in the broadest sense of the word, as power and action in the lives and writings of women. Based on this concept, we will analyze seven poems from the book Between Ourselves, published by the author in 1976: “Power”, “School Note”, “Solstice”, “Scar”, “Between Ourselves”, “Out There” and “A Woman/Lament for Lost Children”. We propose an analysis of the construction of the erotic in the author’s works even before she herself conceptualized the term; for this purpose, we theoretically and methodologically articulate ourselves from an intersectional perspective.
