A PRESERVAÇÃO DO PATRIMÔNIO CULTURAL NO CONTEXTO DA RECONSTRUÇÃO DE CIDADES

O CASO DE SÃO LUÍZ DO PARAITINGA

Abstract

The reconstruction of cities in contexts of established need raises questions about the intervention postures that are complex when the object of destruction is considered cultural heritage. In this scenario, how to understand the preservation of cultural heritage in the context of the destruction and reconstruction of São Luíz do Paraitinga? In order to understand this issue, this work is developed in two parts. The first reports postures of preservationist practice and deals with the concept of reconstruction in the Patrimonial Letters, inserting the theme in the debate of authenticity. It then explores, within the scope of the IPHAN guidelines, how the process of reconstruction of Brazilian cities cultural heritage is seen, and investigates the existence of a manual to be followed in case of reconstruction. The second part addresses the case of São Luíz de Paraitinga in three stages: Contextualization - Destruction - Reconstruction. The "Contextualization" explains the antecedents to destruction, revealing the situation of the city within the scope of cultural heritage, its importance and characteristics. "Destruction" illustrates the event that occurred. Finally, "Reconstruction" comprises the objectives of reconstruction plans, analyzing criteria within the methodological sphere and project decisions and how such measures were implemented in the reality of the reconstruction process during the four years after the disaster.
