Abstract

Marolo is a native fruit found at the Brazilian cerrado that has already been abundantly produced in the south of Minas Gerais. In Paraguaçu, located in this region, the fruit generates many socioeconomic influences, serving as an ally in the support of several families. In addition, it is also a source of inspiration for cultural, educational and sports movements in the community. The local citizens, when called "maroleiro" in the region, had this term as something "pejorative", but after the emergence of the project "Marolo: one fruit, several ideas!" in 2008 there were many changes and achievements: the registration of how to make recipes for liquor and marolo sweets as intangible cultural heritage, in 2009; the 1st Marolo Festival, held in 2010, which became a cultural, gastronomic, technical, educational and tourist event, included in the municipality's annual events calendar; the establishment of the “Terra do Marolo” Association, in 2011, and the launch of the book “Marolo: one fruit, several ideas”, in 2017. With the appreciation of this important cultural, material and immaterial heritage, the community currently feels inserted in the relationship with the fruit and its most varied intrinsic forms in the local society, which caused an inversion of values.
