Bernard Williams e os Custos da Moralidade

Para as teorias morais que herdamos da modernidade, levar a moralidade a sério envolve estar disposto a cultivar apenas interesses, relacionamentos e projetos que sejam congruentes com nossos deveres e obrigações morais. Em vários de seus livros e artigos, Bernard Williams ataca essa visão sobre a moralidade. Ele defende que existem razões práticas não morais que competem com a moralidade e, em muitas situações, seria filosoficamente suspeito, além de eticamente indesejável, atribuir aos nossos deveres e obrigações preponderância sobre essas razões. Meu objetivo neste artigo é apresentar algumas objeções a essa posição. Argumento que o ceticismo de Williams é motivado por uma certa visão romântica sobre como devemos viver nossas vidas que seria permissiva e leniente demais em um mundo social injusto como o nosso. Além disso, defendo que, ao contrário do que Williams critica, deveres e obrigações morais não são inconciliáveis com a integridade do agente.
