A experiência de recordar em estudos da memória autobiográfica
aspectos fenomenais e cognitivos

O presente estudo é uma breve incursão sobre o conceito e a função da memória em diferentes etapas da história das idéias psicológicas. O interesse histórico concentra-se no debate conceitual de memória como experiência de recordar para memória como desempenho de aprendizagem. A ênfase do argumento está no retorno à memória como experiência de recordar em estudos contemporâneos de memória autobiográfica. Memória autobiográfica é então definida como a recordação consciente de uma experiência pessoalmente vivida ou testemunhada, acompanhada de um senso de re-experiência do evento original, e da crença de que o episódio realmente aconteceu. Essa abordagem fenomênica recupera a experiência das qualidades como aquilo que permite a um indivíduo distinguir entre a lembrança de um evento passado e outros estados conscientes como o sonho e a imaginação. O estudo ressalta a contribuição cognitivista em trazer novamente ao centro da pesquisa psicológica a evidência da primeira pessoa (qualidades fenomênicas).
