Abstract

Many studies address the usability of digital libraries and repositories, but few address mobile access or consider user interaction and experience across multiple devices. The general goal of the study is to evaluate the usability and user experience aspects of the UFMG Institutional Repository, considering the use in two devices: the computer and the smartphone. The case study includes three methodological procedures: (1) a systematic literature review; (2) an inspection of UFMG Institutional Repository interfaces; (3) and empirical study with users. The theoretical conceptual foundation addresses digital libraries and repositories, usability, design and human-computer interaction, information search behavior in digital media and the use of mobile devices. The results achieved include the identification of the main usability problems of the UFMG Repository, as well as the proposition of recommendations for improvement and identification of future opportunities.
