Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyze the university libraries of the Brazilian federal universities regarding the budgetary and technological resources to develop services and products for the academic community. The study universe comprises 19 federal university libraries in the southeastern region of the country, in the time frame from 2017 to 2019. The research was carried out in two stages, the survey of the theoretical framework that presents the history of the university in Brazil, the university library, the public budget, the technologies present in the information units. The methodological procedure for data collection was a questionnaire sent to the managers of the information units and for data analysis, some categories were selected from the questionnaire. The questionnaire was prepared based on studies by Ferreira (1980), Carvalho (1981) and Lubisco (2011), on the questions that would probably have the greatest impact on university libraries. It is important to have a more specific knowledge of the reality of university libraries at federal universities, which allows an updated view of these libraries through a diagnosis that allows establishing the areas that must be developed.
