Abstract

In this essay, we propose an analysis of one of the most famous sequences of the film Spartacus by Stanley Kubrick (1960): the one in which the slaves led by Spartacus and defeated by the Romans self-proclaim in one voice “I’m Spartacus!”. In this paper we present the hypothesis that both the movie director and the screenwriter based their researches on the Spanish baroque play Fuenteovejuna, by Lope de Vega.
