Abstract

In this article, the issue of intertextuality and its basic analytical assumptions are introduced firstly, with the aim of obtaining support for the comments that follow. These comments split into two parts: in the first one, in Book IV of the Georgics, the rescue of Eurydice is compared through intertextuality with that of Creusa, in Book II of the Aeneid. In the second part, the discussion focuses on the dialogue between the same rescue scene in the Aeneid, led by the hero Aeneas, and that of the parents of the twins from Catania. After going through the stages described, the results obtained point to contrastive differences involving the Aeneid, especially when considering Orpheus’ extreme attachment to his wife and the direct conduct of the pii fratres in the work of volcanology (Aetna).
