Abstract

In this article, I present a brief overview of human-animal studies in antiquity, pointing out aspects of proximity and specificity in relation to human-animal studies in a broad sense. To do this, I explain what human-animal studies are, how they came about and what their importance is, and then characterise the development of this discussion in the context of classical studies. Finally, I emphasise the mutual contributions that the intersection between these two fields can make. With this, I hope to offer not only a reflection on the theoretical and methodological possibilities and limits of the theme of animals in antiquity, but also to draw attention to the important role that classical studies can play in the discussion of the animal question in general in Brazil.
