Abstract

This text presents itself as a brief commentary on the representation of the voice of the literary subject between Romanticism and the present moment, raising more questions than providing effective answers. If Romanticism gave birth to the great Author, sacred for his original voice and  genius, Modernity gradually made the text itself, the word, gain centrality in the work, making the subject disappear, despite the author himself, despite even the clarity and objectivity to which the reading public was accustomed. By tracing this history in a very summarized way from the perspective of authors such as Benjamin, Blanchot, Barthes, Foucault, Merquior and Rancière, the article aims to present these authors’ affirmations and doubts, and to establish certain questions that help us reflect both on the place of the subject today and on the paradigm shift represented by the poetic subject.
