Abstract

This article focuses on the genealogy theme in the work of the Brazilian doctor and memoirist Pedro Nava. Scrutinizing contexts and situations in which genealogy might be undertaken, the writer discusses the theme in (auto)biographical and digressive passages of his Memoirs. This study aims to examine how Pedro Nava links genealogical knowledge to cultural heritage, family history, genetic ancestry or social identity to reconstitute the past. The objective is to analyze excerpts of the Memoirs, according to reflections of Erik Erikson (1963, 1975, 1980), Paul John Eakin (2008, 2020) and Paul Ricoeur (1985, 2004), among others.
