Abstract

This article aims to offer a reinterpretation of the question of the "end of art," present in Hegel's Lectures on Aesthetics and in the thought of Arthur Danto, especially in the essay "The End of Art." The aesthetic speculation of Hegel or Danto does not intend to diagnose the death of art as an interruption of all possibility of making art in modernity or contemporaneity. It is a gradual change in the way of thinking about art; it is, therefore, the predominance of reflection over intuition. In this sense, our work intends to present resonant and dissonant aspects regarding the theme, in relation to the two authors. With this, we intend to further expand the possibilities for thinking about art in contemporaneity and its possible vicissitudes. Bringing these authors closer together through the theme of the "end of art" and making them dialogue means recognizing the relevance that this prognosis, initially Hegelian, has for the present artistic phenomenon. Bringing them closer together also means discussing the potential that the theme of the "end of art" holds for the new and multiple developments of contemporary art.
