Publicações científicas por meio eletrônico: critérios, cuidados, vantagens e desvantagens

Abstract

Electronic publishing, on diskettes, CD-ROMs or the Internet has supplied authors and editors with many technical and structural potentialities. On the other hand, it has stated certain challenges. Focusing on the academic journals, this article reviews the main advantages and drawbacks brought by the digital medium. In order to do that, it ponders and opposes the oppinion of experts in the fields of information science, computer science and communications, and finally suggests that it is appropriate to think of print and electronic publishing as complementary.
