Quality environment in an Univerity Library Application of the 5S Program and a participatory style of administration

Abstract

This article analyzes the 5S Program for Administration, developed in Japan in the late 60s, and the Participatory style of organizational management. Next, it presents a University Library case in which these two forms of management were applied. The article attempts to demonstrate that, in a face of escarce resources, it is possible to find original solutions that can bring substancial improvement in services, and create an environment of trust, responsability and quality in the work space.
